Michael Ferguson is in his first year as
assistant softball coach at Southwest. Ferguson was an honorable mention
NAIA All-American baseball player at Henderson State University, where
he played for former Cy Young Award winner Mike Marshall. Ferguson was a
two-time all-conference player at Henderson State and set the school’s
career stolen base record with 104.
As a senior, he batted .380 and led the conference with 40 stolen bases.
Ferguson batted .413 his junior year and led the nation with 64 stolen
bases including a NAIA national record with eight thefts against Central
Arkansas.
Ferguson played his freshman and sophomore seasons for Coach Jim Miles
at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Mississippi. He
batted .229 as a sophomore and led the team with 19 stolen bases after
batting .325 as a freshman.
Ferguson was a three-year baseball letterman at Kirby High School in
Memphis, where he played for Coach Bubba Cates. As a senior, Ferguson
batted.395 and was selected to the all-district team. He also lettered
in football and was named to the all-district and all-metro teams.
Ferguson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the
University of Memphis in 1995. He has a daughter, Bria Alexis (age 15).
