SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL LOSES IN PLAY-DAY GAMES
The
Southwest softball team lost all four games in the 3rd Annual Lady
Saluqis Play-Day over the weekend at the Buckhead Creek Recreation
Complex. On Friday, Southwest lost to Bethel College 3-0 and Jackson
State 10-2 then on Saturday the Lady Saluqis were defeated by Rhodes
College 4-0 and Dyersburg State 4-2.
Despite the losses, there were several Southwest players who played well
including freshman pitcher Staci Craig (pictured at left) who
allowed only three earned runs in 15-1/3 innings including 4-1/3 shutout
innings against Dyersburg State. In the Dyersburg State game, Craig
entered the game with bases loaded and two outs in the third inning and
struck out the first batter she faced for the third out. It was the
first of seven strikeouts for Craig, who fanned five of the last six
batters in the sixth and seventh innings.
Another freshman who had a good weekend was centerfielder Brooke Hively,
who had four hits in the four games including two hits, two runs, and
three stolen bases against Dyersburg State. Freshman first baseman
Amanda Harlow also had multiple hits for the Lady Saluqis.
The Southwest softball team will play this Friday, October 13 in the
Dyersburg State Fall Play Day in Dyersburg, Tennessee. These will be the
final games of the fall season for the Lady Saluqis.
