SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL TEAMS SWEEP JACKSON STATE

The 5th-ranked Lady Saluqis basketball team improved to 19-0 on the season with a 74-61 win over Jackson State on Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Tennessee.  Candace Rucker (Northside) led Southwest with 24 points and Starkitsha Luellen (Melrose) posted her fifth straight double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds. The Lady Saluqis also received outstanding play off the bench from Cristil Camper (Tunica Rosa Fort) with 11 points and 4 assists, Brittany Butler (Craigmont) (pictured at right) with a career-high 9 points, and Raquel Brigham (West Memphis) with 8 points.

In the men’s game against Jackson State, A.J. Nance (Marion) and Markecio Beal (Wooddale) (pictured at left) scored 22 points each to lead the Saluqis to a 93-70 victory and improve their record to 19-3. Beal also led the team with eight rebounds to go along with his career-high point total. DeAngelo Riley (Kirby) was the only other Saluqi to score in double figures with 16 points.
