SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL TEAMS HOST CLEVELAND STATE
The Southwest basketball teams return to the Verties
Sails Gymnasium on Saturday, December 1 against TJCCAA
rival Cleveland State. Game times are 2 p.m. for
the women's game with the men following at 4 p.m.
The
Lady Saluqis are undefeated at 6-0 and are coming off
conference wins on the road at Chattanooga State and
Motlow State and a 77-56 non-conference win at Coahoma
on Tuesday night. Candace Rucker leads the team in
scoring at 21.3 points per game, ranking her first in
the TJCCAA and seventh in the NJCAA and also leads the
team with 26 steals. Other top scorers are Keona Brooks
(11.5), Cristil Camper (pictured at left) (9.2)
and Starkitsha Luellen (9.0). Luellen is also the
top rebounder with a conference-leading 11.2 average and
Camper is the team leader in assists with 3.3 per game.
The
Southwest men, currently 6-2 on the season, are
averaging a conference-leading 108.9 points per game
which also ranks second in the NJCAA. Dominique Johnson
leads the Saluqis in scoring at 19.3 points per game,
followed by A.J. Nance (17.4), Markecio Beal (10.6), and
Leon Martin (10.5). Martin (pictured at right)
is coming off his best game of the season on Tuesday
when scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead
the Saluqis past Coahoma 98-78. Other
statistical leaders are Jeremy Rodgers with 9.6 rebounds and Emmanuel Cheers
with 6.5 assists and 2.7 steals.
