SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM SWEEPS HIWASSEE
The
Southwest baseball team swept Hiwassee College in a
three-game series over the weekend to improve its record
to 15-27 overall and 8-15 in the TJCCAA. In Friday's 5-2
win, Zac LaBarreare (pictured at right) struck
out a career-high eight batters in a nine-inning
complete game. LaBarreare allowed only four hits and no
earned runs to pick up his third win of the season.
Jordan Wakefield led the Saluqis' offensive attack with
three hits and two runs batted in.
In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, Brandon Goodman
tossed the staff's second straight complete game,
allowing only two hits, no earned runs, and striking out
five as Southwest won 6-1. In the finale, David
Clayton's two-out single in the bottom of the eighth
drove in in LaBarreare to give the Saluqis a 12-11
victory and a series sweep. After Hiwassee took the lead
in the top of the seventh, Daniel Hill's three-run homer
with two outs in the bottom of the seventh sent the game
into extra innings. Clayton, Ryan Ripperton, and Billy
Ray Todd each had three hits in the game for Southwest.
