SALUQIS BASEBALL TEAM DROPS THREE TO RANKED TEAM
The Southwest baseball team opened its season over
the weekend with a three game series against LSU-Eunice
on the road in Eunice, Louisiana. LSU-Eunice, ranked
second in the NJCAA’s Division 2 Pre-Season Poll,
defeated the Saluqis by scores of 5-3, 6-0, and 7-2.
Top
hitters for Southwest in the series were sophomore first
baseman Corey Rudolph (pictured at right) (3 for
4, double, RBI in game one), sophomore leftfielder Billy
Ray Todd (2 hits, double, RBI), freshman designated
hitter Jesse Brooks (2 hits, RBI), and freshman
rightfielder Dustin Dover (2 hits).
The Saluqis baseball team will travel to Niceville,
Florida this weekend for the Carl McInnis Classic,
hosted by Okaloosa-Walton College. Southwest will play
Shelton State on Friday, Okaloosa-Walton on Saturday,
and conference rival Cleveland State on Sunday.
Southwest and Cleveland State will meet again February
15-16 when the Saluqis host the Cougars at First
Tennessee Fields in the home opener and also the first
TJCCAA series of the season.
